I suck at updating this thing. Unfortunately, or should I say fortunately, real life has been much more involved than the interweb lately :)
You know how I love food. This book talks about food and how we relate to food, what they mean to our body, our minds and in general, our relationships with ourselves and each other.
It's very good so far. I'm halfway through it right now.
Tomorrow we head out to Vancouver Island for a little family R&R. I love riding on the ferry, it's such a beautiful ride. Hopefully the weather gets better. It's been pretty miserable here for a June month and I miss California sunshine horribly. It's one thing if its the winter time but damn this June freezing cold weather. It's just not right!
Ok, more real life to attend to. Happy Weekend!
Anyways, I recently read the following books:
The glass castle was very good.. if you like stories about dysfunctional families and that sort of stuff. Eat, love, pray was ok. I think white, middle class, 30 something women would enjoy it, but not this asian, 30 something lesbian.... I guess I just didn't relate.
And on my reading list.... a foodie book, of course :)

Mark Kurlansky is the author of the book "Salt" and "Cod". This is collection of food writing throughout the ages.. it's quite good. I'm halfway through it.
Next on my list..
I picked up North Country from the library. It's the author's memoirs of his travel across the US-Canadian border. It seems interesting enough.. but I haven't started it.
Last but not least, our next book club selection is:
Now on to your regular programming...
Sooo.. currently, I'm reading "The Sun Also Rises" out of necessity since its our book club #3's book of the month (yes, I belong to not 1, 2 but 3 book clubs.. I need help.)
So far.. it's ok. I will let you know how I like it.
Over the holidays, I read Michael Ruhlman's new book -- The Elements of Cooking as it was one of my Christmas prezzies. It is splendid. It's not so much a read like some of his other books such as The Soul of a Chef and such but it's definitely a great reference for anyone who's into cooking.
There's a glossary of the A-Zs of cooking terms and such.. and also a few short essays on basic need-to-know techniques in cooking.
If you have a foodie in your family, this is a great addition :)
I've been feeling more private than usual lately so I've been neglecting this blog and using more of my private LJ instead. But yes, here's something for you, dear readers :)
Currently reading...
Fall has quickly given away to Winter here in Vancouver and it's a good book for the Wintertime :)
I've also managed to squeeze in the following two books, mostly because of the book clubs I've joined in Van...
Next on the read-list will be The Glass Castle, which I am really looking forward to.
Soooo.. what else is new...? Well, exciting upcoming launch at work of the Radarsat-2. (Sorry, LJ for the redundant post) Work in general has started to pick up speed so I'm getting a little less bored, which is good.
Other than that, life is good in the great not-so-white North.
i'm reading what the rest of the world is also probably reading right now..
700+ yummy pages. delicious. i'll let you know how it goes.. i'm refraining from spending all day on the couch in my filth, reading... it's a gorgeous day today.
oh.. during my alaskan vacay, i read the following:
i enjoyed hosseini's book tremendously, and both of bourdain's books. death in belmont was decently enjoyable while reading lolita was.. "eh"
i seriously have a reading problem...
i seriously need to stop starting on books.. currently reading "the long tail".
waiting for msbuild to finish building so i can shoot off my code to one of my engineers so he can finish up on it tomorrow.. and so i can crawl into bed, cuddle with my warm girl and pups and read my 98673 unfinished books.
such is life.
work has been all consuming in the past few weeks so i've been neglecting my interweb audience. so.. what's new..? nothing really too exciting on my neck of the woods. sad, yes? hehe
we've been soo busy the past few weekends. i ordered the following books from amazon.
yay. books.
i think i need a nap. it hurts to be awake. :|
currently reading "the lovely bones" by alice sebold. (apparently, it's to be made into a movie by peter jackson in 2008... hm. cool)
it's very, very good. the first book this year that i've picked up that i'm looking forward to getting to reading every night before i go to bed. also the first book i've had to force myself to put down because i'm staying up too late to read it :)
i'm 3/4s done. still excited about it. highly recommended.
next on my reading list....
and i also have...
a valentine's day present :D
this evening, we stayed in for dinner. nadine surprised me with dinner... she went all out. chipotle tuna tartare appetizer, crabcakes entree and a walnut brownie dessert. all made from scratch. she's a lovely cook, that woman is amazing. :)
